Hi everyone!
My name is Katarina Bååth and I work as an equality developer at Örebro University in Sweden. During the coming weeks I will write some blog posts about how we at Orebro University, the other universities and research funding organizations in Sweden work with gender equality and research. One target issue is how distribution of research funds produce or reproduce gender inequality.
In Sweden, we have a political vision of gender equality with six underlying target areas that both universities and government research funders are expected to contribute to achieving. The Swedish gender equality policy is to ensure that women have equal power to shape society and their own lives. To reach the vision we have six interim goals.
Equal distribution of power and influence
Women and men must have the same rights and opportunities to be active citizens and be able to form the terms for decision-making.
Economic equality between women and men
Women and men must have the same possibility and terms as regards paid work that provides economic independence throughout their lives.
Equal education
Women and men, girls and boys must have the same opportunities and conditions as regard education, choice of education and personal development.
Equal distribution of unpaid care and household work
Women and men must have the same responsibility for housework and must have the possibility to provide and receive care on equal terms.4
Equal health
Women and men, girls and boys must have the same conditions for good health and be offered health care on equal terms.
Men's violence against women must stop
Women and men, girls and boys must have the same rights and opportunities in terms of physical integrity.
